I have some questions about rooting!

Postby THCAndy » 13 Jan 2012, 20:05

I very recently got a MyTouch from T-Mobile. It's running gingerbread, and it's my first droid device. As soon as I heard about rooting, I checked it out, and I am now aware of the risks.
Now I wanna know the benefits.
How will this benefit my device?
In what ways will it extend it's capabilities?

Anyone got any guides on how to do it? I'm having trouble finding them.

Keep in mind my phone is a MyTouch. Not a MyTouch 3G
Although it does have 4G

There are many benefits of rooting. You can download apps that require Root access like SetCPU. And you can also flash custom ROMS, so you don't have to use the OS that can with your phone. Why not see this article for more information? http://androidforums.com/mytouch-q-all- ... 011-a.html

Thanks for the welcoming back!

AndroidOS:
That article seems a little incomplete yet still slightly helpful. If you notice, that is displaying instructions for the MyTouch Q, and the root guide isn't even for that phone, it is just reported to have worked. I still haven't decided if I want to root yet, but if I do, I'll definitely give that method a shot though.

The only reason I want to root, is so that I can remove these unwanted applications that remain ever so static on my app list. Mainly the generic looking antivirus they gave me. I would MUCH rather prefer to use Avast, or at least AVG.

i would highly recommend CyanogenMod.
http://cyanogenmod.com/
they have an in-depth wiki article for rooting each device
Risks:
-almost none

Benefits:
-no manufacturer/carrier bloatware
-no "carrier IQ"
-faster speed
-root access
-over/underclocking
-and more :)

Is it this one?

I've rooted about 20 phones, but never that one.

My phone is a LG MyTouch by TMobile.
When my phone turns on it says Android4G if that matters

I would find you a compatible rooted build, but the CyanogenMod website got injected with a trojan...

That's the one. Not the Q but the regular MyTouch.
I would love it if you could find a compatible build for me, or at least keep an eye out!

I'll see what I can do.
this might take me a day or two though.

edit:
try (just get the drivers that aren't for the Q, just the non-q ones :)

Found a youTube video with the right title that I didn't actually watch due to time constraints but it should be helpful:
