[How to] Spot and Remove a virus!

Postby THCAndy » 20 Jan 2011, 20:40

Well I made a thread called How to keep your computer clean, if you follow that you shouldn't have to come here. xD
But you're in this thread so you obviously need my help.

How to spot a virus

You know you're infected when any of the following symptoms occur:
-You have an "anti-virus" program that you did not install. It will usually pop up when you start up your system. You will notice that it will not let you into most of your computer as "it has a virus"
-You may notice your computer has had a drastic change in its operating speed. Do not get this confused with aging computers that are slowly becoming slower.
-You have random pop-ups even when you aren't browsing the internet.

How to get rid of it

Step 1: Download SUPERAntiSpyware. Once you have downloaded it, make sure your database is up-to-date (it will alert you if it is not), then run a full scan on your computer.

Step 2: Download MalwareBytes, and scan your computer using this. While it may look like SUPERAntiSpyware has gotten rid of the problem, registry entries and infected files may still exist and are still harmful. MalwareBytes will help get rid of anything SUPERAntiSpyware didn't.

If you are unable to run these programs due to a virus stopping you, try booting in safe mode and then running them.

I may add to this later if I see necessary.
I hope I helped you, and if I didn't just post in the forum with your problem (:

Malwarebytes and superantispyware are great tools to use against malware.

That's what I was gonna say Trojan,,, LOL Always use safe mode when a virus is involved. You will find it much easier to use as it doesn't start up very many devices. Only the one's you need. Safe Mode With Networking is what you should use. In case your browser has been disabled and your not able to download Malware... You could always detect a virus if your anti-virus software tells you you've got a virus (I don't think that was mentioned yet).

Thank you for this! For the longest time my computer would randomly go to different sites with ads. The malwarebytes really helped. I couldnt get to it through your link, but I did find it on CNet. Thank you so much :<3:

Glad I could help!
Though, I just checked the MalwareBytes link and it is working for me, but since you got it from cnet, it's the same thing. Grats on the computer health! :D
