[Guide] Keep your computer clean!

Postby THCAndy » 20 Jan 2011, 19:38

Before you read this guide, please know that all the programs that are in bold and are colored, are links to the programs/website stated.

Well let's hope that you're reading this guide early on in your computers life, or that you have at least had some sort of protection as of this far.

First we'll start off with virus protection. Through all the different virus protection programs, I have found that the best one that is not free, is Kapersky, but I all of my guides feature free software. So the recommended virus protection, is Microsoft Security Essentials. This is a very secure, trusted, and light program. It is recommended that it starts on the start-up of your computer. It will turn orange when you need to scan, and red when there is a virus detected while you aren't scanning. So basically it is always checking to make sure you are safe, and protected. The best part of this program is it is completely free and will not ask you to pay.

Next thing you'll want to download is a good virus scanner. At my computer repair internship, we use SUPERAntiSpyware which is also a very good, free virus scanner. It is also recommended that you use MalwareBytes in situations where you think you have a virus. Malware is software that aims to damage or disable your computer.

Finally, as a little fine tuner, I run this about 3 times a week: Advanced SystemCare, basically this is a junk remover. It does a quick spyware, registry, scan, it remove things like internet history, and traces. It also deletes your cookies. Running this regularly will noticeable help your computer stay fast and smooth.

Well that concludes my guide. I hope you liked it!

Nice guide indeed. But I don't like Advanced SystemCare at all.

CCleaner is very good ... when configured correctly, Malwarebytes free and retail is very good as is Microsoft Security Essentials.

Forget the Advanced-SystemCare. It will cause you problems and the maker has a questionable background.

Why? I used it for a long time. But now I prefer CCleaner because it does not run in the background constantly.

ASC modifies system settings and can cause system instability.

"I've tested it on my tester computer and the result was system instability. The system booted and ran, but running apps afterwards caused the sytem to hang." - Amd_Man | TSF Hardware Tech Team
